Haitian Educational Initiatives (HEI) founder Susan Whitcomb initially went to Jacmel, Haiti just after the earthquake in 2010 expecting to teach English for a few weeks. She quickly learned that 50% of children in Jacmel had no access to school and that the few schools still standing were in desperate straits. Now, five years later, HEI has created and continues to administer programs that provide education and support to 160 students in Jacmel. Susan was interviewed by Gwen Edwards of Channel 12 on the 5 Year anniversary of the devastating earthquake. (Haitian Educational Initiatives is a two time Project Redwood grantee.)
