How GerHub Is Making a Difference
Working with creative partners, Gerhub aims to help marginalized populations living in informal tent communities in urban Mongolia improve their quality of life, economic development, and infrastructure by providing education and programs that address climate change, social innovation, and improved community facilities.
GerHub brings together local and international partners to develop creative, even radical solutions to common problems and empowers local residents to become the initiators of the changes. Successfully accomplished, these locally-led changes make urban environments healthier and more vibrant places to live.
What GerHub Does
- Plans educational programs to cover all ages, from pre-schoolers to university students, building core skills and promoting creative problem-solving work.
- Utilizes its social innovation programs to provide opportunities to play, learn, work, and solve challenges through collaboration. The first of these is the Felt City Project.
- Via its climate programs, supports efforts to transition to more efficient and environmentally friendly energy sources.
- Provides placemaking programs to support the development of new parks, playgrounds, and other community-enhancing spaces.
Initiatives Supported by Project Redwood
2025: $30,000 to fund the Felt City Project, a novel initiative to transform traditional ger settlements into hubs of community-based tourism. This grant supports increasing the number of hosting families and raising their incomes. Indirectly, more tourism activity will promote community engagement and new job creation across the broader community.
