How Strategies for International Development (SID) Is Making a Difference

SID helps poor farmers overcome poverty by building successful agricultural businesses that increase their incomes.  Their projects also concentrate on preserving natural resources and ensuring that women are on equal footing.

Work of SID

  • Helps coffee farmers increase yields and prices and improve business decision-making in Guatemala, Uganda and Tanzania.
  • Increases milk production and quality among dairy farmers by improving feeding, breeding, and animal health in Malawi.
  • Helps coffee farmers in Guatemala, Uganda and Tanzania access the specialty coffee market by complying with Starbucks Coffee and Farmer Equity criteria.
  • Engages farmers to select and adopt new and improved methods, and evaluate results at the end of each harvest cycle. 

Initiatives Supported by Project Redwood

2019:  $25,000 to partially fund the first year of a 3-year program to improve agricultural practices in the poorest coffee farming area of Guatemala.

2020:  $30,000 to expand their 3-year project in Guatemala to additional farmers.

2021:  $30,000 to continue the successful implementation of their 3-year Guatemala project.

2022/2023:  $30,000 to help Ugandan women improve their leadership and public-speaking skills to facilitate equal participation in family farm businesses.
