How Youth Design Center is Making a Difference
Youth Design Center provides hands-on training in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) to disadvantaged, minority 14-to-24-year-olds to prepare them for higher education and job placement. The core creative apprenticeship program starts with exposure to graphic design, digital media, 3D design and architecture, and is then followed by more detailed immersion courses in particular disciplines, and ultimately, internships.
Work of Youth Design Center
- Operates as a creative agency, supporting mentored project work for graduates of the creative apprenticeship program.
- Offers workshops for skill building in various media (such as design software, photography and screen printing).
- Oversees an after-school digital makers club where participants build portfolios and earn stipends.
- Provides equipped co-working space.
