2008 - 2010: Building Momentum

A Growing Community, A Strengthening Model

During this period, we strengthened our foundation and accelerated our impact.

We refined our grantmaking approach, introducing a streamlined application process that not only supported near-term projects, but also encouraged organizations to think strategically about long-term growth and scalability.

We brought our community together through annual meetings at Stanford and in New York City, creating space to hear directly from grantees, reflect on our progress, and shape a shared vision for Project Redwood’s future.

We expanded both our funding and our volunteer base. At our 30th reunion, a spirited “pay-to-play” basketball game raised an incredible $197,000 in a single day, demonstrating the power of community-driven giving.

During this period:

  • 18 grants awarded totaling $384,374
  • $484,374 in cumulative grants

Learning Together

We shared what we were learning about grantmaking while gaining insights from grantees on the front lines, creating a dynamic, real-world exchange of ideas.
