Danae’s life and career have been defined by bridging worlds: finding unique opportunity in translating between communities, sectors and systems that rarely speak the same language. “As the biracial daughter of a single mother,” she says, “I was compelled at an early age to think about the intersection of race, education, and opportunity.”
That perspective shaped her goal “to grow exceptional communities to level the global playing field.” After college, that mission took her to an East African refugee camp, Rwanda and Burundi. In considering her next step, “the GSB’s motto—’change lives, change organizations, change the world’—spoke to me.”
Danae’s time at the GSB was the most transformative period of her life, strengthening her commitment to global social impact through the private sector, while giving her the confidence to lead with vulnerability. She honed operational leadership skills at DaVita Inc. before becoming Managing Director for East Africa at Nova Pioneer, a GSB co-founded network of schools developing Africa’s next generation of innovators and leaders.
Delta Education Collective, founded in Uganda in 2019 by GSB classmate Meredith Bates (MBA ’12), deepened Danae’s commitment to education. As Delta’s founding Board Chair, Danae helped guide the organization as it grew to serve over 30,000 students. Delta’s community-led model empowers rural residents to solve their own challenges by setting annual goals to improve academic results–a timely self-sufficient model as international development is reimagined amid the dismantling of USAID.
Ken Inadomi (MBA ’80) introduced Danae to Project Redwood as a potential funding source. With co-sponsor Jeff Buenrostro (MBA ’08), she helped Delta secure four consecutive Project Redwood grants. Those investments helped raise national exam pass rates by 12 percent over two years and gave more than 1,800 students the chance to return to school and continue their education.
At the U.S. State Department, Danae mobilized $6 billion to advance an African development partnership combining rail infrastructure, digital connectivity, agriculture, energy, and critical minerals development, to accelerate economic growth. She continues to drive investment in the region as an independent consultant.
Whether she’s building education systems, forging public-private partnerships, or creating spaces for meaningful conversation, Danae returns to the same belief: lasting change begins with relationships. She credits “deep conversations with people I love” with inspiring her work with Delta, and Stanford GSB Women’s Circles, which she co-founded with Michelle Clayman (MBA ’79) in 2013. Today, the values of deep connection and communication also define her newest roles as wife and mother.
