How Nyanam International Is Making a Difference

Nyanam International is a restorative-justice organization preparing widows to be leaders of positive social transformation in their communities through integrated programs in leadership, health, livelihoods, and justice.

Work of Nyanam International

  • Forms and supports leadership circles of widows that provide emotional, spiritual and financial peer support.
  • Delivers training and capacity-building in business, property rights, human rights, and voice-of-change leadership.
  • Facilitates livelihood initiatives (agriculture, micro-business) and health interventions for widows and their families.
  • Advocates for land justice and property-rights protection for widows, including paralegal support and legal clinics.
  • Educates and supports children of widows through youth programs, scholarships and camps.

Initiatives Supported by Project Redwood

2026: $30,000 to create a peer-led model to educate widows in land rights and as paralegals, to train local leaders to directly support widows by filing inheritance and land succession cases in courts, and to improve community attitudes toward women’s land ownership.
