How Vocal Justice Is Making a Difference

Vocal Justice engages low-income students in education programs to raise their academic achievements, increase their civic engagement, and equip them with skills, confidence, and personal networks that will help them thrive professionally.

Vocal Justice’s Youth Power Collective — a six-month, project-based program that trains and pays students to lead community projects – will equip participants with critical thinking, communication, and collaboration skills.  Vocal Justice also connects student participants to adult mentors and immediate financial support, strengthening their ability to help their underserved communities and create their own pathways out of poverty.

What Vocal Justice Does

  • Provides curriculum and professional learning modules that promote academic growth and prepare student participants to advocate for social justice.
  • Provides Fellowships for teachers to learn how to implement the “Storytelling for Social Change” curriculum and share feedback and connections to Vocal Justice.
  • Trains students in civic engagement and critical thinking, through Youth Power Collective.
  • Builds academic and job readiness skills often missing from traditional classroom settings, and prepares students for future leadership roles.
  • Creates stronger pathways out of poverty by providing students with adult mentors and financial support.

Initiatives Supported by Project Redwood

2025: $40,000 to support part of the Youth Power Collective that provides student internships and trains site-specific teachers who will facilitate student-led civic engagement projects working with local nonprofits.
